Micro-algal Technology
Micro-algae are photosynthetic, eukaryotic micro-organisms that are capable of rapid growth with minimal growth requirements. As such, micro-algae represent an attractive and cost-competitive candidate for production of biological molecules, including pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, platform and specialty chemicals and lipids suitable for conversion to biofuels and other products such as biolubricants. In fact, micro-algae are already cultivated in the thousands of tonnes per annum range for the production of substances including vitamins, polyunsaturated fatty acids, pigments and specialty chemicals.

In contrast to bacterial and yeast expression systems, which can be unsuitable for the expression of biological molecules for clinical use, due to inappropriate or lack of required downstream modifications, micro-algae can produce biomolecules that are equivalent to those produced by mammalian cells with regard to their biological activities and potential for clinical application. As production systems improve in efficiency and design and cost, the relative cost competitiveness and reliability of the algal production platform is expected to surpass that of existing platforms.

Our Technology
We have developed an innovative platform for the precise integration of DNA into predetermined sites within micro-algal genomes. Using this technology we can engineer micro-algal strains with modifications of existing pathways or to specifically express foreign proteins, such as for biopharmaceutical applications.

At present, our technology is in the pilot phase where we are rigorously testing our modification platform in multiple algal strains to determine the optimum conditions to achieve maximal results prior to the identification of industrial partners.

Let us work with you to develop your desired strains and cut your development time.
